Context

Ethics at Deptford Green provokes challenging questions about the ultimate meaning and purpose of life, beliefs, the self and the nature of reality, issues of right and wrong and what it means to be human. It develops your’ knowledge and understanding of principal religions and other world views that offer answers to these challenging questions.

Class Activities and Enrichment

Students are encouraged to discuss, debate, explore and research a range of topics.

Key Stage 3

In Year 7, pertinent questions are asked such as, What is RE?  Does God Exist?  Christianity is examined through Parables and important moral and philosophical question of Rights and Responsibilities.  In year 8 we look at Religion and Science, Buddhism and  Humanism. 

Key Stage 4

Paper 1 looks at Christianity. The Nature of God, The Trinity, Biblical accounts of creation, the problem of evil and suffering, Jesus Christ, Salvation, Worship, Sacraments, Prayer, Pilgrimage, Celebrations, The role of the Church, Mission, Charities.
Paper 2 examines Islam. The Nature of Allah, prophethood, pilgrimage, celebrations, charities, the problem of suffering and evil, prayer, tawhid.  
Paper 3, Religious, Philosophical and Ethical Studies in the Modern World. Issues of life and death, issues of human rights, issues of relationships, issues of good and evil

Post-16 Pathways:

GCSE Religious Studies/Ethics could be of use in a variety of AS/A Level courses including, Sociology, Psychology, Law, Philosophy and Government and Politics
