DG House System

Since its launch in January 2025, the Deptford Green House System has become a vibrant part of school life, encouraging teamwork, leadership, and a strong sense of community. Rooted in our values of: Explore, Dream, Discover, the system provides every student with a smaller family within the school where they can thrive, be recognised, and contribute meaningfully.

Our Four Houses

The House names, chosen through a whole-school consultation, reflect figures who embody resilience, creativity, service, and cultural significance:

Inspired by Sam King MBE – Windrush pioneer, Southwark’s first Black Mayor, and co-founder of Notting Hill Carnival.

Named after Princess Helena, Duchess of Albany, known for her philanthropy in Deptford through the Albany Institute.

Honouring Sybil Phoenix, the first Black woman awarded an MBE, and a local champion of fostering and community action.

Celebrating Yoshio Markino, a Japanese artist and activist who lived locally and promoted women’s rights and cultural understanding.

Each student and staff member is part of a House, supported by House Captains and vertical form groups that promote connection across year groups.

Earning Points & Celebrating Success

Points are awarded for:

  • Attendance and punctuality
  • Demonstrating LORIC values (Leadership, Organisation, Resilience, Initiative, Communication)
  • Winning one-off competitions like Sports Day, Reading Races, STEM Week challenges, charity drives, and more
  • Strong turnout at Parents’ Evenings

The system is cumulative, with weekly, half-termly, and termly updates. Students are celebrated regularly, and each year ends with the announcement of the Overall House Trophy winner. The house with the most students recognised for “Going the Extra Mile” also earns bonus GITG (Get Into the Green) reward trip places.

The House System at Deptford Green continues to grow as a central part of our culture—bringing out the best in every student, one point at a time.
